Law Library Events
Take a look at some of our recent events. We love being part of the St. Lucie County community!
Legal Clinic November 17th

In collaboration with Florida Rural Legal Services, the Rupert J Smith Law library in Fort Pierce is happy to announce that we are assisting with an upcoming Law Library Clinic. We are fulfilling our mission by connecting individuals with resources and attorneys to navigate the legal system by providing equal access to the law.
Individuals will have the opportunity to speak with an attorney to discuss their legal issues moving forward. The next clinic will be held Monday, November 17, 2025 beginning at 9:30 and ending at 12:30. Law Library appointments are limited to registered applicants only; unless an attorney authorizes otherwise. Sessions will be 30 minutes in length, with a half hour break in between.
Legal Assistants Training Clinic
The library hosted our first "Legal Assistant training Clinic" session on October 22, 2025. There will be three additional sessions following in December, February, and April.
This session was a success! Attorney Angela Baumgarten, Law Academy Instructor from St. Lucie West Centennial High accompanied her class do an initial tour of the Law Library.
We are thankful for the attorneys who donated their time to talk to students interested in pursuing a legal career. These particular students have the opportunity to complete legal assistant certification while in high school.

The speakers were two local attorneys who discussed qualities and skills expected from a legal assistant with a focus on listening and analytical skills needed. Formal legal education and practical experience were highlighted including discussion on what a typical day in a law office might look like for an attorney and/or legal assistant. The attorneys shared their personal experiences.
The objective was to bring students together to discuss skills and tasks that would be assigned in a law office, ranging from phone etiquette, client meetings, research, meeting deadlines, etc. Expectations were discussed and questions were encouraged.
The next training session will be held on Monday, December 8, 2025.
Community Event: Trunk or Treat with United Against Poverty
The Law Library participated in a Trunk or Treat event organized by United Against Poverty in Ft. Pierce on Friday, October 17th. It was a great way to meet members of our community and let them know about the services the library provides. Plus, we handed out lots of candy to many wonderful children, dressed up in their best Halloween costumes.
CLE Movie October 24th

Join us Friday, October 24th, at 2:00 for a 1 hour CLE video shown in the law library classroom.

Hope to see you there!
Constitution Day 2025
Students from local area high schools participated in a special Constitution Day event hosted in partnership with the County Courthouse, the SLBA, the Clerk of Court's office, and the RJS Law Library. Constitution Day commemorates the signing of the U.S. Constitution on September 17, 1787.
Students were instructed on the topic of civil discourse and then participated in a mock trial led by volunteer attorney coaches and judges. Lots of positive feedback has been received and we hope to make this an annual event!
